Alan Wake
I hope no one like tries to sue me for putting this here... I'm just a kid trying to review a game! Please don't sue meh.
So not too long ago the game, Alan Wake, was released. (PS: Yay for my first post!) At first I wasn’t sure what to expect with this game. I hadn’t paid much attention to the trailers so I thought I was a detective investigating a murder. That was not that case in the slightest. Although there was some investigating in a way…
You start off as this writer… who currently has writer’s block. You arrive in a small town with this chick who’s mouth looks weird, despite the amazing graphics. Now, I don’t want to give the whole thing away but you gotta know, you are going to fight a lot of people that want to kill you with both a flashlight and a gun. This is rather funny considering that last Summer I was doing some self-portraits, one of which involved me with a flash light and I was like hey this could make a cool video game cover/idea type… thing. Well yay my prayers were answered!
The game does its job. I spent a lot of the time in the game making noises that are not human because I was trying to run away from the bad guy. It was sort of like Vash12349 playing Resident Evil 4 (if you don’t know who he is go watch his walkthrough of that game its amazing). Its not so scary that I couldn’t sleep, although not many things scare me that much anyway… but it definitely had that horror element. Also the difficulty was perfect, I believe it was just predetermined… (it has been a bit since I last played the game) but I did die a few times, but not every five seconds which, to me, is perfect. Its annoying when games are too hard and you have to be insanely good to beat them and its boring when they’re too hard so good job with making this game right in the middle!
Also if you haven’t heard about it, the game is split in “episodes”. This idea is absolutely perfect. I could play about an episode a day. It also gave the game a more TV show-like feel which was really cool considering no other game has really done that…
Well I’m not sure there is much else to say. Like I said the graphics are nice aside from the mouth movements of some characters but its not like many other games have been able to perfect that yet, it gives a sense of horror and is a bit hectic at times, its not insanely hard nor boringly easy, and its quite innovative considering no other game really had sections of a game be episodes plus the whole flashlight idea. (Also there is another awesome part involving like a book being slowly assembled… think of it as Pokemon, gotta catch them all… them meaning the pages… not saying anything else more!)
Improve: Mouths. (I don’t blame just this game though, there are barely any game who have perfected the awkward mouth movements…)
Awesome: The ending, the overall story, the flashlight.
Rating: 9 out of 10 – improve mouths
Buy, Rent, Pass: BUY! I’m going to when the price goes down to keep on Gamefly… XD
1 Comment: Only horror game I’ve ever beaten… I often start others and become afraid that I’m going to die in the next part so stop…
